Our Mission

Our vision and goal is development of a makerspace facility to serve as an advanced technology resource for all Sussex County school STEM programs and for workforce development, and also as a community of Makers open to all who want to create their own independent and group projects.

About SCMI

Sussex County Makerspace was begun by retired STEM teacher Jim Hofmann. After 31 years in the Newton school system, including 14 years as Varsity Robotics coach of multi-year World Championship participant FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) Team 3142 Aperture, Jim now works to develop this community makerspace, open to all. Among Jim’s hands-on skills are woodworking, model-building and 3D printing.

Sussex County Makerspace, Inc. is overseen by a Board of Trustees, of which Jim is the president. We will partner with local companies and government entities to further our Mission.
