Our Mission
Our vision and goal is development of a makerspace facility to serve as an advanced technology resource for all Sussex County school STEM programs and for workforce development, and also as a community of Makers open to all who want to create their own independent and group projects.
Our Beginning
Sussex County Makerspace was founded by Jim Hofmann, a retired STEM teacher who spent 31 years in the Newton school system. For 14 of those years, he coached FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) Team 3142 Aperture, leading the varsity team to multiple World Championship appearances. Today, Jim is putting that experience to work building a community makerspace open to everyone. He brings hands-on skills in woodworking, model-building, and 3D printing.
Sussex County Makerspace, Inc. is governed by a Board of Trustees, with Jim serving as president. We plan to partner with local businesses and government agencies to advance our mission.
