The Innovation Station

This is a Weekly Open STEM Space offering planned, guided STEM activities for kids in 5th through 8th grades in a fun, collaborative environment. Each week will feature a different theme or project, encouraging exploration in career areas such as automotive, mechanical, civil, materials, biomedical, imagineering, engineering design, robotics and creative problem-solving.

Sessions include: Earthquake-Resistant Tower Challenge, Prosthetic Hand Design, Clean Water Filtration System, Payload Landing Challenge, and Shock-Absorbing Polymer Design Challenge.

The Innovation Station facilitator is Sussex Tech Senior, Aubrey White, and the program is managed by retired Newton STEM teacher Jim Hofmann. Sussex County Makerspace volunteers will be present for all sessions.

Sessions are Thursdays from 5:30pm to 6:30pm at Newton Firehouse #1, 22 Mill Street, Newton. The program starts Thursday, February 19th, and runs every Thursday until March 19th. You don’t have to commit to the full five-week program — just sign up for the Sessions you want.
